Thy Kingdom Come 2021

Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement taking place between Ascension and Pentecost (13th -23rd May 2021).

After the very first Ascension Day the disciples gathered with Mary, constantly devoting themselves to prayer while they waited for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Like them, our reliance on the gift of the Holy Spirit is total – on our own we can do nothing.

Through the centuries Christians have gathered at that time to pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit. ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ picks up this tradition. Over the years more and more worshipping communities have dedicated the days between Ascension and Pentecost to pray ‘Come Holy Spirit’.

Since its start in May 2016 God has grown Thy Kingdom Come from a dream of possibility into a movement. Christians from 172 countries have taken part in praying ‘Come Holy Spirit’, so that friends and family, neighbours and colleagues might come to faith in Jesus Christ.

Households, churches and communities are encouraged to pray in their own way and there are resources available on the Thy Kingdom Come website to help and guide them.

New for this year are the Cheeky Panda resources. The flagship resource is an 11-part fun-filled and Bible based video series, with songs, animated stories, prayer and interviews with special guests, all based on the daily themes of Thy Kingdom Come. These episodes are designed for use in church services, school assemblies, children’s ministries and at home within the family. The Growing Faith team in our diocese have created a Panda Prayer trail to work alongside the Cheeky Panda resources. The trail comprises 11 panda stations that can be downloaded and printed. Churches and communities hide these stations and encourage participants to find them. Each station has a QR code that links to one of the 11 videos.

Also, every night from 13th to 23rd May at 7.30pm for about ten minutes there will be 'Pause and Pray' meetings on Zoom. There will be a short Bible reading and a reflection and then time for personal prayer. Find out more here.

On the final day of Thy Kingdom Come, Pentecost Sunday (23rd May), there will be a service of baptism and confirmation at Coventry Cathedral. The service will take place at 4pm and will be livestreamed on the Cathedral's Facebook page.
