St Peter's Church choir perform Covid secure Christmas carols. The singers are separated by transparent screens.
Like all churches, St Peter’s Church in Wellesbourne are celebrating Advent and Christmas differently this year. One of the big differences is they will be telling the story of the nativity outside.
The team at St Peter’s wanted to give local families the very best experience of Christmas, despite the Covid 19 pandemic. Therefore, instead of focusing on what they can’t do they changed their perspective and thought about what they would be able to do. An idea from the charity 'Faith in Kids' provided the perfect solution – an outdoor, socially distanced, walk through nativity!
On Saturday 19th December from 4-6pm, the church will be welcoming families at timed intervals and will take them on a journey through the Christmas story. Families will be met by an angel at the entrance to the churchyard who will tell them the good news of a special baby to be born. Then they will be led on a trail lit by lanterns to a series of stations. At these stations they will meet a Roman soldier (who will tell them about the census), and then on to Joseph, the shepherds, wise men and finally they come to a stable filled with hay bales where they will find Mary and baby Jesus.
The families will spend five minutes at each station and the team will be able to tell the story to 24 families in two hours.
Vicar of St Peter’s, the Revd Greg Bartlem says;
“Safety is key for everyone involved, and we did a thorough risk assessment. I’m genuinely excited about this. It’s not something we’ve ever, done before, but a brilliant idea from Faith in Kids to do something new that will make this Christmas real special. We’ll literally be guiding families to find Jesus. What better way to do Christmas!”
