The Diocese of Coventry has provided funding for primary schools in Nuneaton Deanery to access the Archbishop of York Youth Trust's Young Leader Award.
The Archbishop of York Youth Trust (ABYYT) was established by Dr John Sentamu in 2009. They are founded on Christian values and inclusive to all in their ethos and activities. ABYYT exists to empower young people to serve their generation, putting the needs of others before themselves, as displayed in the life of Jesus and people from many faith traditions. It is the Trust’s vision to see a generation of young people empowered to transform society and they do this through working in partnership with schools, churches and communities; developing opportunities for young people to grow in leadership, faith and character. Through the Young Leaders Award (YLA), ABYYT is equipping young people with key leadership skills, helping them to develop in their character and empowering them to play an active role in their communities through volunteering and social action.
The Diocese of Coventry is a trail blazer diocese for the new ‘Growing Faith’ work commissioned by the Church of England House of Bishops in 2019. The Coventry Diocese Board of Education (DBE) co-led a project entitled ‘Growing Faith in Nuneaton Deanery’, with the aim of building long lasting and positive relationships across schools, churches and households that will help to nurture faith in children and young people. As part of this project the DBE partnered with several supporting organisations (ICONs, Coventry Cathedral, ABYYT) to help with the development of this work.
Five primary schools in Nuneaton deanery were given funding for the Young Leader Award, including All Saints, Bedworth (who are featured in the video). ABYYT delivered a ½ day training event on the YLA for all staff involved in the ‘Growing Faith in Nuneaton Deanery’ project. This included; school leaders, governors, local CofE clergy and the Nuneaton Deanery ‘Growing Faith’ family link workers.
A celebration event took place in Coventry Cathedral in July 2022 to celebrate the children who took the YLA.
