The Diocese of Coventry is committed to the Church of England’s target to be Net Zero by 2030. Our commitment to the environment strongly influences the decisions we make.
In November 2022, our Diocesan Synod carried the following motion:
“that this Synod, recognising the increasing severity of climate events now resulting from anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions, strongly affirms the current diocesan policy of no investment in fossil fuels and commits not to reverse this policy in the future without Diocesan Synod’s approval.”
This means that we have deinvested in fossil fuels and have no plans to reinvest.
In 2019 we were pleased to be awarded with the Eco Diocese Bronze Award and are currently working towards achieving the Silver Award.
Whilst we celebrate our achievements, we also recognise that there is still much work to be done to protect our environment for future generations.
In April we will be focusing our communications on caring for the environment. We will be sharing stories of great work happening across the diocese and practical ways we can make a difference. If you have a story to share, please get in touch.
