Three new Honorary Canons will be appointed at Coventry Cathedral this week.
Jo King, Lay Warden of Readers, has been invited to be an Honorary Canon so that she can bring to the life and ministry of the College her many years’ experience of and deep commitment to the contribution of the laity.
Richard Hibbert, Vicar of Holy Trinity, Coventry, has been invited to strengthen and further the relationship between the Cathedral and Holy Trinity with its important civic connections as represented by the Vicar of Holy Trinity, Coventry.
Claire McArthur, Rector of Stoke St Michael, Coventry; Area Dean of Coventry East, and Chair of the House of Clergy, has been invited to bring to the life and ministry of the College a wide range of experience over many years in Coventry diocese and, particularly, as Chair of the House of Clergy.
Honorary Canons play their part in the life of the Cathedral by:
- Participating in meetings of the College of Canons for the purpose of stakeholder engagement.
- Providing expert advice in relation to projects, and participation in the life of the Cathedral.
- Being ambassadors for the Cathedral locally, regionally or more widely.
- Helping to connect the wider diocese with the life and character of the Cathedral.
Bishop Ruth said:
“I am delighted that we are welcoming Claire, Richard and Jo as Honorary Canons. Each of them brings a passion for following Christ and serving their community with hope and joy!”
Dean John said:
“We are very much looking forward to Jo, Richard and Claire joining the College of Canons. Each of them bring years of wisdom and experience, and will strengthen this area of our Cathedral’s life. We are delighted that Bishop Ruth has chosen to honour their ministry in this way, and that they will join those who are ambassadors for the Cathedral. They will have a significant role in the next few weeks as they are invited to join me and the rest of the College in obeying the King’s direction to formally elect Bishop Sophie to be our new Diocesan Bishop.”
The three new Honorary Canons will be installed by Bishop Ruth during Evensong at the Cathedral on Wednesday 13th November at 5.15pm. All are welcome to attend.
