2024 is a year of elections!

This year, we will be electing members to Diocesan Synod and Bishop’s Council and we need you!

Diocesan Synod is the ‘parliament’ of the Diocese, with over 100 members drawn from all 11 deaneries.  It meets three times each year for a mixture of worship, prayer, presentations, debates and discussions on items ranging from the annual budget to diocesan strategy.

Nominations for Diocesan Synod open on Mon 3 June and close at 12 noon on Mon 25 June.  There’s more information about who is eligible and the nomination process in these Frequently Asked Questions.

Nomination forms will be available to download from 31 May and will also be sent directly to all qualified electors (deanery synod members).

Bishop’s Council members are elected by and from Diocesan Synod.  The newly elected Synod members will take up their roles from 1 August, with nominations for Bishop’s Council elections open from 1 August to 16 September.  Further details about the Bishop’s Council elections will be added over the coming weeks.

More information about what’s involved can be found in the Diocesan Synod and Bishop’s Council Roles and Responsibilities documents, click to open.

A Prayer for the Elections

Almighty Father, who by one Holy Spirit gives varieties of gifts, and varieties of service, we thank you that we journey together as your children. We place our Diocesan Synod into your hands. Activate your wisdom and discernment in all who stand for election, and in all who vote. Grant each of us your grace, that in service we may seek your glory and the common good. For this we pray through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Diversity and Inclusion

It is recognised that people from United Kingdom Minority Ethnic / Global Majority Heritage (UKME / GMH) backgrounds are currently under-represented in the governing bodies of the Diocese of Coventry.  This includes elected bodies such as Diocesan Synod and Bishop’s Council.  It is in these places that decisions, planning and influencing happen and it is critical to inclusion, belonging, representation and growth that there is diversity of thought, understanding and contribution in these processes.  The Diocese of Coventry particularly welcomes nominations from UKME / GMH candidates, to help us live up to our mandate of being a body where all the gifts of all the people flourish to the full, as we work together in our mission purpose of worshipping God, making new disciples and transforming communities.
