Lent season 2026 in the Diocese of Coventry
Since Bishop Sophie’s installation service in July last year, we have been journeying together through a number of well thought out phases; a listening phase, an immersive phase, which included day visits to every deanery and the cathedral, and, during Advent, a 'Watching and Waiting' phase which saw many people from across the diocese reflect back signs of the kingdom that they could see.
Our next season is called ‘Walking Forward Together’. This will be a time to feedback on what Bishop Sophie has learnt from the Deanery Days in Autumn and identify key themes in order to discern a refreshed vision for our diocese for the coming years.

Use our Lent resources to walk forward together
This new Lent resource is designed to be a blessing and to help us pray together as we seek to develop a strategy that will take us forward into the growth of a diocese in which all can flourish.
Bishop Sophie says:
"This year we are seeking God’s refreshed vision and direction for the Diocese of Coventry. I invite you to join me as we journey through Lent in prayerful expectation that God will lead us as we walk forward together towards Easter. Starting on Ash Wednesday with a day of prayer and fasting, these weeks are an opportunity to reflect together in our homes, parishes and schools.
Might God be calling us towards a refreshed vision of ‘Growing a Diocese:Reconciled to God, With each other, For the world’...?
Let us discern with humble hearts, praying that God will help us as we walk forward together."
Walking Forward Together Resources

This resource is suitable for use within families or households, in small groups or individually. Each week has its own theme exploring walking in the bible featuring a bible passage, a reflection, a ‘make and do’ and a question for response.

Prayer
Eternal light, shine into our hearts,
Eternal goodness, deliver us from evil,
Eternal power, be our support,
Eternal wisdom, scatter the darkness of
our ignorance.
Eternal pity, have mercy upon us;
That with all our heart and mind and
soul and strength,
We may seek your face and be brought
by your infinite mercy to your holy
presence,
Through Jesus Christ our lord.
Amen
