Revd Adam Tams appointed as Generous Giving Enabler

The Diocese of Coventry is pleased to announce the appointment of the Reverend Adam Tams as its new Generous Giving Enabler, a key part-time role within the Healthy Churches team dedicated to nurturing a culture of generosity across the diocese.

Adam brings significant experience in ministry, leadership, and church operations, most recently serving as Vicar of St Jude’s Southsea in the Diocese of Portsmouth. He began working for the Diocesan Board of Finance on 10th November, combining this role with his parish responsibilities as Priest in Charge of the Offchurch Group in Southam Deanery.

As Generous Giving Enabler, Adam will work across parishes to inspire both theological understanding and the practical implementation of Christian generosity. His role will involve equipping clergy and lay leaders to teach confidently on giving, developing accessible resources through the Diocesan Equip Hub, and communicating the transformative impact of generosity throughout the diocese. He will work closely with Simon Jones, the Diocesan Stewardship Advisor, who continues to lead the Digital Giving and Stewardship Advisory work.

Reflecting on his appointment, Adam said:

“I’m so delighted and excited to serve in this role. For me, generosity is not just about how we use our money, but is a value of the Kingdom of God. It is an intentional act of discipleship, a reflection of God’s abundance, and a vital ingredient in church growth and mission. I am honoured to return to the diocese and support the churches in this area as we grow together.”

Clive Hicks, Healthy Churches Development Enabler, added:

“The intention has been to have a full-time equivalent post to lead on generosity in the diocese. Circumstances led us to first establish the Digital Giving project and Stewardship Advisory support, led with purpose and clear outcomes by Simon Jones. The remainder of the remit - generous giving, inspiration, and enabling - will now be carried forward by the Redv Adam Tams. We are excited that the team is coming together for a fixed period of time and hope that all we offer will be beneficial for churches, parishes, benefices, and deaneries across the diocese. Do contact Adam and Simon for advice—they will be in regular contact, and I am providing support and accountability for them in their roles.”

Adam studied for his BA in Theology and Ministry at Trinity College Bristol and later gained an MA in Charismatic and Pentecostal Theology from the University of Birmingham. He previously served his curacy in the Diocese of Coventry at St Paul’s Leamington Spa. Adam returns to the region with his wife Jess, their three children Jacob, Ellie, and Zeph, and their springerpoo Sammy.
