Coventry Cathedral holds prayer vigil for Israel and Palestine

On Wednesday October 18th 2023 at 8pm – 8.45pm, Coventry Cathedral, one of the world’s oldest religious-based centres for reconciliation, will be holding a prayer vigil for Israel and Palestine.

The service will be led in the New Cathedral by the Very Revd John Witcombe, Dean of Coventry Cathedral and prayers will be invited from many faith traditions.

John Witcombe, Dean of Coventry said:

“We all stand appalled at the events in Israel perpetrated by Hamas and by the escalation of violence in Israel and Gaza. We may feel powerless, but we can stand in prayer or human solidarity with those millions who are suffering, and those who have the power to bring an end to the terrible chain of events. Here in this city we have known our own devastation, and although not of the same scale, it gives us a sense of connection with others whose lives and homes have been torn away from them. Do come and share with others of goodwill, and those who grieve, in a short time of silent or spoken prayer and quiet sung lament as we seek a way to be together in loss and the search for hope.”

Please note, this a time for prayer, and not for flags or speeches. We stand with all who are suffering, and bring their plight before God and one another, each according to our own tradition and belief.

No booking necessary. All are welcome.
