Tuesday 19 May

Thought for the day from Kate Massey

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God.

May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.

Psalm 143:10 (NLT)

Walking is a favourite pastime of many – especially when it has been our only permitted activity for several weeks! But not all walks are equal. Some are straightforward and brisk, as we follow well trodden footpaths or established tracks. Other walks are more challenging as paths grow faint and the ground is uneven. They require a slower pace and careful attention. There is a real chance you might get lost or twist an ankle or fall…

For many of us, ministry before coronavirus was like the former sort of path. We had our well known patterns of prayer, worship and activity which worked well and served God and people.  Ministry is now a more uncertain path as we feel our way along routes we have not travelled before. It can be exciting but also precarious and tiring. However, as last Sunday’s gospel reminds us, we are not alone. We have the Holy Spirit to keep us on a firm footing. So let’s pray for God’s gracious Spirit to guide us in all we do today.
