Bishop Sophie is pleased to announce that following a national search and thorough interview process, the Revd Alison Evans has accepted her invitation to serve as the Archdeacon of Coventry. Alison is currently Vicar of Holy Trinity, Attleborough and Assistant Area Dean of Nuneaton Deanery. She has served in the diocese for 22 years, having been ordained in Coventry Cathedral in 2004. This appointment comes as part of changes to our archidiaconal structures as we look to offer more effective support to our parishes.
Alison said:
“Having had so much experience here in Coventry and the surrounding area, I am very aware of the joys and challenges that clergy and churches experience as they seek to make Jesus known and serve their communities. There is a rich diversity here, and many gifts among both lay and ordained people, and I look forward to playing a part in seeing the renewed vision implemented and bringing hope and encouragement.
I am looking forward to getting to know the parishes and people of the Archdeaconry more fully in the coming months.”

“I am delighted that Alison has responded to God's call to serve as the Archdeacon of Coventry. In her, the panel saw a deep commitment to the care of clergy and lay leaders, an understanding of healthy culture and a love for the church here in Coventry. Alison brings a wealth of experience to this role and I know she will relish the new opportunities for learning and leading across a wider canvas. I very much look forward to welcoming her to the Bishop's Senior Staff Team as we seek to help churches and communities flourish in the coming years. Alison also demonstrated an ability to bring wisdom and insight as we shape and implement the new diocesan strategy; a task we will do carefully and collaboratively. Alison will begin her new role later this year, with 1 November being her last Sunday at Holy Trinity. Please join us in praying for Alison as she takes up this new role, and for the season of transition for her and for the archdeaconry she will serve.
Bishop Sophie is grateful to Revd Richard Hibbert as he continues to serve as part-time Acting Archdeacon of Coventry. The Archdeaconry of Coventry includes the following deaneries: Nuneaton, Coventry North, Coventry East, Coventry South, Kenilworth and Rugby.
